IEA is Setting the Standard in Sustainable Waste Management
What is sustainable waste management?
Sustainable waste management means a commitment to building the most innovative,
forward-reaching waste, recycling and diversion programs to align what’s best for
your business with what’s best for the environment and our communities.
How does IEA make this a reality?
First of all, IEA is a diversion company, not a disposal company.
We work for you, not the trash company.
This allows us to focus on what matters: managing your entire waste and recycling
program with the goal of identifying and diverting as much material from your waste
stream as possible in order to increase your efficiency and make your business greener,
leaner, and more successful.
At IEA, we see waste as a resource. Waste can be recycled. Waste can be

Electronic Waste Recycling (eCycling) is recycling or reusing electronic equipment or components rather
than adding them to the waste stream.
As the use of electronic products grows, it becomes more and more important to find safe, cost-effective,
sustainable ways to manage the end of their lifecycles.
IEA can help you eCycle products including, but not limited to:
- Computers
- Peripherals (including printers, scanners and fax machines)
- Cell phones and telephones
- Televisions and DVD players
- Other electronics
. Waste can be re-used. Waste can be turned into energy. At IEA, it’s not waste
until it’s wasted.
Lots of companies use the “green” buzzword. At IEA, we have the deep experience,
resources and knowledge to act on it. Our LEED-certified staff and recycling and
diversion experts will design and implement the best waste management, recycling
and diversion program for your business – and monitor it to ensure its continued
success.
Recycling and Diversion
Diversion means targeting all possible recyclable and reusable materials and removing
them from your waste stream so they don’t end up in a landfill. This benefits both
the environment and your bottom line.
A successful recycling and diversion program is not as simple as just putting a
recycling collection bin behind your building and sending it away when it’s full.
But with IEA’s expertise, it can be implemented with little or no extra effort on
your part. We manage your program seamlessly and comprehensively so you can keep
your focus where it belongs – your own business.
Here’s how we do it:
- First, our LEED-certified experts perform a complete waste audit and identify all
the materials that can be diverted from your waste stream
- Then we design a comprehensive waste management, recycling and diversion program
that is practical, sustainable and uniquely tailored to your business needs
- We implement the program throughout your organization, utilizing our vast network
of vendors to ensure you receive the best service at the most competitive price
- We continuously monitor and manage your program to ensure its long-term effectiveness
– and our top-quality customer service is always available to help
- We help you showcase your increasing sustainability success to your stakeholders
What types of waste don’t have to be wasted? The materials we can divert from your
waste stream and turn into usable products include (but are not limited to):
- Office paper
- Cardboard
- Electronic products
- Universal Waste

Universal Waste is a category of waste materials not designated as "hazardous waste",
but containing materials that need to be prevented from free release into the environment.
It is defined in 40 CFR part 273, by the United States Environmental Protection
Agency but states may also have corollary regulations regarding these materials.
Universal Waste includes:
- Batteries
- Pesticides
- Mercury-containing equipment (including many thermostats)
- Lamps containing mercury (e.g. fluorescent lamps, including compact fluorescent
lamps)
Businesses and other generators of such waste are required to provide for their
proper disposal.
IEA provides certification of proper disposal of Universal Waste.
- Post consumer and industrial rigid and film plastics
- Wood scrap
- Food waste
